With 351,740 residents in 28 cities and 43 communities, the Ore Mountains district is one of the most heavily populated rural districts in Eastern Germany.
At this point in time, 12 of the largest cities (Annaberg-Buchholz, Aue, Brand-Erbisdorf, Freiberg, Marienberg, Oelsnitz/Erzgeb., Olbernhau, Schneeberg, Schwarzenberg, Stollberg, Zschopau, Zwönitz) are actively involved in the regional management for the Ore Mountain district. This group is working on trend-setting strategies for getting the attention the Ore Mountains need in order to be successful in the intense competition among regions that is taking place across Europe. One result of the work done up to this point is the creation of the true Ore Mountains origin and identity seal.
